Most Pathetic Picture Ever?
As you might have seen on the news last week, Seattle had some crazy windstorms. The result for us was a little damage, a week without electricity, and a fridge/freezer of smelly spoiled food.Emma had just gone to sleep when the wind really picked up. We were sitting in our living room, near the front door. There was a glass screen door on the other side of the front door. Suddenly, there was a flash and the door exploded. The glass shattered everywhere. I don't know how else to explain it: Lightning bolt maybe? Strong gust of wind? Right after that, the electricity went out.
Anyway, we kind of wussed out. With some tall trees all around the house, we were worried about one falling on Emma's room. So I grabbed a flashlight, set up Emma's portable crib in the basement, cleaned up enough room for Amy & I to sleep, and we all retreated under ground. It was kind of a crazy night, and none of us slept very much.
The winds were clocked at 70 mph where we live, which is a lot, but still not the kind of thing Floridians deal with every year. But it's been kind of a crazy month for weather - first we set the record for rainfall in one month (with a bunch of basement flooding), then a snow/ice storm that kept us off the roads for a couple days, then the wind storm.
We spent the next couple nights at home in the dark, bundled up. (Note the picture) But the temperature dropped to the low 30's, and we were getting pretty concerned for Emma staying in the house. So after calling around, our friend Traci once again came to the rescue (you're awesome Traci!). We stayed with her for a couple nights before we flew out to Charlotte for Christmas. When we left, our power still hadn't been turned on, and some people in the area still don't have power. It was quite a storm.
Basically, I learned how helpless a city guy I am. If something goes wrong with my local grocery store, we're in major trouble!
