"Croatian School Overcoming War's Divisive Legacy"
Here is an interesting article on how schools in one Croatian town are attempting to integrate ethnicities. This is an important but complicated topic, and we will have much to learn about these things from those who've lived through these experiences. In the meantime, we can all pray for reconciliation:Dusanka Ilic had butterflies in her stomach when summer break drew to a close. Not only was the Serb teenager moving to secondary school, but for the first time in her life she was to have classes with her Croat neighbours.
The significance might be lost on an outsider, but for Croat and Serb children in this ethnically mixed eastern region -- home to some of the fiercest fighting in Croatia's 1991-95 independence war -- this was quite extraordinary.
Until now, teenagers of the two ethnic groups have been strictly separated and went to schools in turns, Croats in the morning, Serbs in the afternoon. Now they go at the same time and even share some classes together...
